Treatment for perio.: I am assuming that you are asking about the treatment of periodontitis. First, periodontitis caused by bacteria left on your gums and teeth. So your dentist or dental hygienist will show you how to keep your teeth and gums clean. Then the treatment consist of removing the tartar and other toxin that accumulated on the teeth. The goal is to reduce the "pocket depth" and healthy, tight gums.

Determine diagnosis: After a proper diagnosis is made, patients with plaque induced periodontal disease (caused by bacteria in your mouth) are usually treated first with scaling and root planing (deep cleaning) in conjuction with oral hygienie instructions. Additionally, medical consultation may be necessitated for certain conditions (such as diabetes) as would smoking cessation. Some patients require surgery.

Laser/LANAP: We utilize laser treatment to treat periodontal disease whenever possible. It is less invasive and doesn't require flaps. We have been performing the fda cleared lanap protocol for over 7 years with great success. All of this can be determined after a thorough consultation and diagnosis with a quality set of digital x rays. www.drgums.com.

Stop the disease: The first step is to stop the disease. You can not do this by yourself. Your dentist must be able to clean the surfaces of all the teeth and then you must be able to keep them clean. Depending on how well you can do that will depend on if you will need further treatment or continuing care maybe every three months.
