Oxygen/blood supply: Best would be to look online-- in short, the pressure forces more oxygen into solution( in blood), and this non-cellular part of the blood, plasma, can nourish parts of the skin etc that are fed by small vessels, where the cells, which usually carry most of the oxygen, are too big to reach.
