? Recurrent herniation.: If you're having leg pain following a discectomy, there's a possibility that there may be a the recurrent disc herniation. You should see your surgeon and obtain a new lumbar mri.

Several reasons : There is a chance of a recurrent disc herniation (5%). Another cause can be scar tissue forming (1-2%) or development of back pain post op (10%) as a result of the disc comtinuing to deteriorate in spite of the herniation being treated. If you are a smoker, these risks are higher. Infection post op is a small risk unless you are diabetic, obese, had prior back surgery and/ or smoke.
