What are the complications of diabetic maculopathy?

Blindness: Blindness is the major complication of diabetic maculopathy. Macula is responsible for central vision in the eye, so maculopathy will manifest with decreased central vision. Retinal detachment is another one. Hemorrhage is an option as well.

Severe vision loss: Diabetic maculopathy can lead to severe loss of vision if not addressed. If you are diabetic and have decreased vision see your eye doctor immediately.

Vision Loss: Diabetic retinopathy is due to years of diabetes, often less than optimally controlled, which results in damage to retina blood vessels. Maculopathy is due to abnormal leaky blood vessels which waterlog the retina and impair visual function. Treatment options include laser, vitrectomy, and anti vegf injections into the eye.
