Sleep: Are you taking about drugs or otc products? Your doctor has prescrition soporifics tthat are more potent than otc but have the potential for tolerance and habituation. Discuss it with him. What is the cause of the problem.

Why are you asking: If you need a "powerful" anything, then you may have a serious medical problem. Sleep disruptions are very common, with many causes. Please see your doctor to discuss your sleep hygiene, substance & alcohol use, breathing, general health, stimulant use, and psychosocial stress - all of these impact your sleep. Don't drug it out, find why you have the problem.

Some are: Most self help materials that you can buy easily from the bookstore may have a combination of passive muscle relaxation exercises and guided imagery techniques. These will most often help those folks that have a difficult time winding down physically and mentally. These are usually good for those that have brief periods of insomnia, and less helpful for chronic insomnia patients.

Anyone used a delta wave sleep aid?
1 doctor answer • 4 doctors weighed in

Dr. R Sangal answered
Sleep Medicine 43 years experience
Why would you: Although it is commonly stated that slow wave sleep (stage n3 sleep, stage 3/4 sleep, delta sleep) is needed for sleep to be refreshing, there is no evidence to show that. The amount and continuity of sleep is more important than what stage and how much time in each stage (except that too much time in stage n1 might not be as refreshing).

No.: The only benefit to eyeshades is darkness. I suppose there could be a psychologic or suggestive benefit but not a hypnotic one.
