A member asked:

Can you enter sleep at rem and skip over the previous sleep stages?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: Rem sleep, also called dream sleep, follows the other stages of sleep, and comprises about 20-25% of the total sleep time. In normal sleep we cycle through non-rem and rem stages four to six times per sleep period, and they occur at about 90 minute intervals.
