A member asked:

I understand "glue ear" can delay speech development. what age is most susceptible to this?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Ages 1-2: "glue ear" is otitis media with effusion. Due to the frequency of episodes during the first years of life, a young child may spend a large proportion of those years with middle ear effusion and conductive hearing loss, which can affect development of speech/language, as you already know. The incidence of effusion peaks during the second year of life and is more prevalent in wintertime.
