Depends: If you have a bioprosthesis (pig or cow valve) you don't need Coumadin (warfarin) unless you have atrial fibrillation. If you have a metallic prosthesis your INR needs to be 2.5 to 3.5; anything above increases the risk of bleeding without being beneficial for the valve.
