You can get help: Dealing with OCD can be challenging, but starts with a good psychiatric evaluation and treatment plan. Medications may be needed, with dose adjustments or medication changes over time. Psychotherapy is needed too -- for working with obsessions, compulsions, and the anxiety itself. Fortunately, good results can be obtained through consistently working with your psychiatrist and therapist.

Behavior Therapy: Exposure and response prevention (erp), which is a very specific type of behavior therapy, has been shown to reduce obsessions and compulsions in individuals with ocd. Some people are able to do this without medication, but most people with moderate to severe OCD benefit from the combination of medication and erp.

EVAL: Get a psychiatric evaluation for OCD symptomology and severity, and possible medication management. Then get a referral to a reputable clinician who specializes in OCD. I would recommend psychodynamic psychotherapy, or psychoanalysis.
