How to deal with ocd and derealization?

8 doctors weighed in across 3 answers

Therapy & medication: Ongoing psychotherapy and medications are often used in combination with good success. These experiences are unsettling and disruptive to one's life, so the sooner you make an appointment (pcp or psychiatrist/psychologist) the better. You'll learn exercises to practice. It's hard work, but well worth it. Get on with your life by getting professional help.

EVAL: Get a psychiatric evaluation for OCD and derealization symptomology and severity, and possible medication management. Then get a referral to a reputable clinician who specializes in OCD/derealization. Do all of the above right now. Derealization is rare but serious. Go to your local ER or dial 911 id you cannot get there safely, and have a full workup done. DO IT NOW.

Interesting: These two symptoms together may warrant an investigation for focal epilepsy. Please visit with a neurologist and share your symptom history.
