Start at the Dentist: Start by seeing your dentist. Many dentists are able to treat TMJ symptoms and if not they can provide you with a referral. Treatment can include a bite splint, bite adjustment, braces, botox, and other muscle exercises.

See a Dentist: Preferably a dentist with pankey or dawson training in bite equilibration. The dentist will most likely make a custom night guard. You may need to go to multiple appointment for adjustments by the dentist after you get your night guard. This night guard will be completely different from a store bought mouth-gard or lab made night guard.

Need more info: Treatment of tmj/tmd is best provided by a tmj/tmd specialist, a dentist who has had additional training. The treatment may involve other doctors and/or physical therapists/massage therapists, etc. But i would start with the dental field.
