Some controversy: The full discussion is beyond the scope of this forum and a exact level is unkown, ill keep it a general discussion. The total cholesteral and LDL levels are the primary treatment targets for most drs. High trigs shouldnt be ignored and if really high can cause pancreatitis. Also high trigs can be sign of poorly contolled diabetes.Trigs are part of non-hdl chol calculation as well & is prognostic.

Need to know more: As triglyceride levels increase the number of LDL particles is characteristically high. However, when high triglyceride levels are high the amount of cholesterol carried by LDL particles goes down. This often results in "normal" LDL cholesterol (ldl-c) levels despite high LDL particle number (ldl-p). When ldl-p is high cardiovascular risk is elevated regardless of of ldl-c levels.
