No: Excess steroid due to an enzyme block can cause abnormal growth. This is rare. Growth hormone is given to people whose pituitary cannot make enough growth hormone.

When needed: There are fda approved indications for the use of growth hormone (peptide not steroid) in kids. There are also fda approved indications for the use of testosterone and estrogen to initiate puberty in kids who need it. A pediatric endocrinologist is the subspecialist who works with such patients.

No they do not: Steroids are not used to grow and are not prescribed by any doctor Only in children who have real growth retardation due to deficiency of Growth Hormone produced by anterior Pituetary.The Endocrinologist will prescribe Injections of growth Hormones
