No: Excess steroid due to an enzyme block can cause abnormal growth. This is rare. Growth hormone is given to people whose pituitary cannot make enough growth hormone.

When needed: There are fda approved indications for the use of growth hormone (peptide not steroid) in kids. There are also fda approved indications for the use of testosterone and estrogen to initiate puberty in kids who need it. A pediatric endocrinologist is the subspecialist who works with such patients.
