A member asked:

Why did my doctor not give me a referral to a endocrinologist or a prescription for insulin when she diagnosed me with diabetes ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Ask your doctor why: Your primary care doctor may be taking care of many people with pre-diabetes or mild-diabetes, and referring out only those patients with severe diabetes. Just ask your doctor. Most diabetics do not need insulin, if they are Type 2 (adult onset Type 2) diabetics. Treatment is helped by getting down to a healthy low weight, exercising a lot, and not eating or drinking things that worsen diabetes.
