Can do: I had it, had braces, pulled them together, worked good. Wear your retainer or they will move back.

Yes: Yes they should pull that gap together or in dentists terms "close the diastema". Let the orthodontist or dentist know you would like the space closed as some people like that space preserved as they think it makes them unique. The ortho or dentist should ask you about your aesthetic concerns prior to starting the case.

They can: Typically the dentist/orthoontist will pull them together...Definitely let them know if you would like the space preserved as is. In addition, if you have a low/long frenum attachment (the muscle which holds the lip down) it may need to be surgically cut (frenectomy)in order to keep the gap closed after braces are complete.

Yes, but: Why is there a space? Are upper front teeth too small, is there a heavy tag of tissue between them, do you have a horizontal overbite, etc. Could be many reasons. If 2 front teeth brought together space can open between the next teeth. May need both tooth movement and tooth reshaping. Ask orthodontist and general dentist to consult. You'll like the ultimate result.

Gap in front teeth: Ah, the age old question! all this depends on the size and shape of the teeth compared with the space available in the jaws. Particularly when a gap is present, the dental arch needs to be carefully evaluated before "closing" anything. If there is a tooth size/space discrepancy, then closing the gap may be fine, but "making up for it" elsewhere (ie moving all the other teeth) may not be easy.
