Controversial: The effectiveness of psychological treatments are still being debated. Hypnosis, cognitive behavioral therapy, relaxation therapy, stress reduction counseling, psychosocial counseling, meditation and guided-imagery techniques have all had some success. It is not yet possible to predict which patients will respond to this type of treatment. A close doctor-patient relationship is also helpful.
