Vastly: Most likely there will be less surgery and more intercebtion with gene therapy and more mibimally invasive surgery. Better education of the public as to prevention of spine problems will aslo alter tge picture.

Vastly: There is tremendous variability in opinion between spine surgeons. The frequency of spine surgery has increased several fold in the past decade without significant improvement in outcomes. For a major surgical procedure such as spine surgery, the criteria will need to be better standardized and the value clearly defined, with today's increasing emphasis on value based purchasing of healthcare.
