My menstruating 12 year old daughter was just diagnosed with moderate to severe scoliosis. we werent told the degree. she has no symptoms. we have a referral to orthopedic. im nervous theyll say she needs surgery. should i be worried?

At her age the scoliosis can still get worse, however many times they will brace moderate scoliosis at least until they hit skeletal maturity (~17 in girls) before surgical options are attempted. Bracing may improve the issue enough that surgery can be avoided.

Surgery is almost never the first suggestion. A brace may be recommended. I strongly suggest that you see a pediatric orthopedist who specializes in the treatment of scoliosis.
