Not directly: The tightening is a temporary spasm of the upper throat muscle. Sometimes in response to stomach juice which can come up unexpectedly, the muscle that en circles the upper food tube can spasm. A hiatal hernia can lead to stomach juice coming up more easily.

Spasm: Could be cricopharyngeal spasm. This occurs when the muscle at the opening of the esophagus tightens involuntarily. If it persists see an ENT or GI specialist to find out if you have this.
