Yes: Many factors are involved in clear vision besides the retina. It may start with lubrication of the outer eye (tears), cornea problems, scars, scratches, or mis-shapen. Lens problems can causes distortions, as well as many other things. If this continues, see an ophthalmologists for a thorough exam.

Yes.: Light rays pass through the front part of the eye before hitting the retina. Any disturbance in the transmission of light through the lens or the vitreous can cause distortion. After the retina, the optic nerve carries signals to back of brain. Disturbance of any part of this pathway can also cause visual distortion. The pattern of distortion is very helpful in determining where the problem is.
