Different issues: Astigmatism is simply an ovality of the eye which distorts the vision until corrected by glasses or contacts. Optic nerve swelling can be very serious. How did this enter the conversation with your ohthalmologist. You might have some degree of dry eyes as well. Revisit with your eye doctor to sort this out.
