A member asked:

Based on your experience as a retina surgeon, i have had macular pucker on 1 eye for 9 years, vision now 20/50, see wavy lines on doorways, etc. & objects larger, how likely is it that vision & distortion will improve if i have vitrectomy?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Vitrectomy with membrane peeling is very likely to be helpful at resolving the distortion (metamorphopsia). In general you can expect a 50% reduction in the distortion. There is also around a 2-3% chance of a serious complication, so go forward if you're having difficulty with daily activities and defer surgery if it's only a minor annoyance.
