A member asked:

How long after a surgery is a person sedated?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

That depends: On so many factors: length of surgery, age of patient. Open abdominal surgery, for example, will require more pain med after, which will increase sedation effect. Some ethnic groups such as east Asian patients are more sensitive to sedation than others. Elderly patients take longer to recover from sedation. So it's hard to predict exactly. Most patients recover relatively soon.
