Specializes in Anesthesiology

Depends: Usually at least a few hours, although some times we can 'fast track' a patient and wake them up in the or. If the patient is in a more precarious medical situation from underlying medical problems or a difficult surgery, they will be kept sedated until they are stable and able to be safely extubated.
