Call your DR: Your sister may need assistance from a ventilator. If she has plenty of phlegm, she needs to be suctioned. Breathing treatment may help. Take care!

Deep breathing: Patients, especially elderly patients experience what is refered to as atelectasis of the alveoli in the lungs after surgery or heavy sedation. This is a collapse of the base of the lungs which can lead to a decrease in oxygen to the bloodstream. This can lead to trouble breathing and hypoxia. Active spirometry or deep breathing exercises cxan reverse this process improving breathing.
