Hormone replacement: After the thyroid is removed, you will need to take a thyroid pill to replace what the gland had been producing. As long as you take the right amount everyday, you can survive without your thyroid gland.

Thyroid hormone: If only removing 1/2 of the thyroid, most patients don't need replacement. If whole gland removed, then simply follow a blood test called tsh. If high, then the doctor would prescribe a thyroid hormone. Fairly easy to take a single pill daily.

Hypothyroidism: Thyroid hormone replacement is the only way. This will be a pill you take every day the rest of your life.

Throid supplementati: One is usually placed on thyroid supplementation following surgery that removes thyroid tissue and often results in functional hypothyroidism. See your thyroid surgeon as well as an endocrinologist to manage your thyroid treatment and follow-up.
