Aura expression: About 15 % of migraneurs experience an aura. The aura occurs a few seconds to 1 hour before the headache. There are many different aura expressions like "sparkly things" you have, other bright lights, "zigzag line”, blind spots in your vision and many other. The latest research has not determined the exact cause and some believe that the “brain dysregulation” leading to a migraine is causing it.

Aura: The sparkly things lasting 5 minutes are more are part of the migraine visual aura. 99% of migraine auras are visual. Migraine auras occur in about 20% of migraineurs. Visual auras are caused by abnormal electrical activity in the occipital cortex (top part of the occipital lobe) of the brain.
