Genetic influence: A third of children with tics have an obsessive-compulsive disorder(ocd). A history of OCD in family members, especially in mother, is often elicited. Ocd has been associated with abnormal concentration of glutamate in basal ganglia and anterior cingulate, which are amenable to pharmacologic treatment and psychotherapy.
