Meds not working: There four reasons medications fail. 1. Wrong diagnosis can cause trial and error treatment which may agravate the anxiety. 2) the presence of an undianosed medical condition such as thyroid disease. 3) the use of an elicit drug or prescribed medications that can worsen anxiety 4) pharmacogenetic imcompatibility means the meds dont match the patient. Simple test can establish the correct medicatii.

Disease activity: In addition to the reasons mentioned by my respected colleague, it appears that mood & anxiety disorders as well as the body response to medication can change with time and that is part of the reason we see resurfacing of symptoms after a long time of stability. The disorders that your daughter suffer from , respond best to ssri;s not to snri's . Please see a specialist in anxiety. Good luck.

Many considerations: Maybe it's the generic version that was less effective.Quite possibly, your daughter's metabolic/psych. Needs have changed over time.Thezoloft may have needed help-eg, another dose?, another med? More complex problems need more complex med solutions. In any case, the fact she was helped by med so much for so long, means there can be a newmed answer now. Work with a great doc to meet her current need.

Seek alternatives: It may be an adjustment in Zoloft (sertraline) dose would be helpful. Development of tolerance is not usually a big issue. but I would discuss with her Doctor. There are other members of SSRI family and others such as Luvox in other families.
