A member asked:

What causes a change in a platelet count when pregnant?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Increased red cells: The amount of red blood cells in the pregnant woman's blood increases, so she can better supply oxygen to the growing fetus. When the red cell "mass" increases, more plasma is added also. However, the platelets fail to keep up, and are relatively less.
