Yes: Though this is more likely with an acute flare in someone with chronic pancreatitis. Much of the pancreas may already be damaged/scarred/fibrosed in patients with chronic pancreatitis, so an acute injury may not cause much increase in serum amylase.

Why does serum lipase and amylase increase during acute pancreatitis? Shouldn't it decrease since there is problem with pancreas (inflammation)?
