A member asked:

Can pancreatitis occur without abnormal serum amylase level?

A doctor has provided 1 answer
Dr. Henry Ng answered

Yes: Though this is more likely with an acute flare in someone with chronic pancreatitis. Much of the pancreas may already be damaged/scarred/fibrosed in patients with chronic pancreatitis, so an acute injury may not cause much increase in serum amylase.
