What tests are performed to diagnose type 1 diabetes?

Several available: The classical presentation is a very sick child with blood sugars 5-10 x normal & evidence of sugar & fat breakdown in the urine. It may be picked up with a random urine test(sugar) or random blood sugar to high, or A1c level above normal. Some reserch labs look into antibodies to Insulin producing cells but this not used for most cases. Blood sugars that are too high are the main screening tool.
