Insulin: In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce Insulin so the treatment is to give back insulin, either through injections or Insulin pump. This is a lifetime disease. Learn about it as much as you can. Here is a good start. http://www.diabetes.org/diabetes-basics/type-1/.

Sugar control: Maintaining close contact with your primary care physician and/or an endocrinologist is the first order of things to do. The blood sugar should be controlled as closely as possible without getting hypoglycemia. You will probably need Insulin injections and chack your blood sugar by fingerstick frequently.
