Yes: If you have varicose veins that are causing symptoms like pain, swelling, cramping, leg restlessness, burning, itching, tiredness, fatigue, heaviness, throbbing, or aching, then it is worth seeing a vein specialist for an evaluation and a discussion of treatment options. If you have any of these symptoms and they are keeping from doing normal activity make an appointment sooner than later.

Yes: Varicose veins are not life threatening, & may be mostly of cosmetic concern in some. However, they commonly cause significant symptoms. Studies show patients with varicose veins have a lower quality of life. They can cause more serious problems such as bleeding, leg swelling, phlebitis, & ulceration. They typically get worse over time. See a phlebologist (phlebology.Org) to evaluate.

Start with a consult: Varicose veins can cause long-term problems that can be severely life-limiting. Start with a consultation with a phlebologist, interventional radiologist, or vascular surgeon who is committed to treating vein disease. Evaluation will include a history and physical examination and an ultrasound examination, which should be done with the patient standing.
