Malfunctioning vein: Reflux just means that when you had the test bloodflow was forced back down toward your foot. This is usually a valve issue in the vein. Your doctor can give you treatments for this.

Varicose vein: the duplex scan helped make the diagnosis as to the cause of your varicose vein. Reflux in the vein course of blood flow to move in a direction down the leg causing the varicose veins develop. Oftentimes the abnormality is in the groin area or in the thigh and the varicose veins are seen in the calf because of blood flow regurgitation.

Reflux and V V's.: Reflux of the saphenous system of veins can lead to varicose veins but not all reflux will cause varicose veins. If you have a single varicose vein on your calf the initial treatment may be support hose. However, it would be prudent to see a vein specialist for a full venous evaluation and a plan of both conservative and possible future vein treatment.
