It depends: A variety of factors determine the best type of treatment for fractures. Usually with children, a hard cast will give them more protection, especially from themselves. A removal boot can lead to non compliance. Discuss with your doctor to find out what they feel is the best immobilization for the type of fracture being treated. Dr l.

Depends: Often with children, it is much easier for the parent and doctor to control the activity level of the child with a fiberglass cast. It also depends on the type and location of the metatarsal fracture. A cast walker boot would be adequate for a minimal fracture and a compliant child but compliance at 18 is often much easier than at 8.
