Varies: Acute HIV disease is an acute inflammatory process in which cytokines (chemicals released from one cell which influence other cells) may alter perception of hunger, resulting in decreases intake and weight loss. The most common would be aids wasting syndrome which occurs in late stages of the disease when the immune system has been damaged, and may be increased by some anti-hiv medications.

Awhile: Weight loss typically not seen until AIDS is in its later stages. When therapy not so good saw it more frequently. Now things are better and uncommon to see weight loss.
