Is bike riding a good exercise?

Yes: It is a good aerobic exercise and helps strengthen your heart and increases endurance esp if you ride more than 10 mph. If you ride at lower speeds, try to work up to 150 minutes per week. If you do vigorous rides, 75 minutes per week is recommended. Since cycling is not a weight bearing exercise it won't strengthen bones, so it's good to do other types of exercise too like strength training.

Very much so: And it may be easier for you on your knees. Make sure you bike is fit well to you, as otherwise you can more readily suffer overuse injuries. Also make sure you keep an eye on your back because bikes which position you in an outstretched fashion can put undue strain on your back and wrists.
