Why would one of my eyes be recently producing discharge? mainly while i sleep?

Depends: Several possibilities: 1- you could be sleeping with one eye slightly open, 2- you have allergies affecting one side more than the other (it would itch too), 3- you may have an infection in one eye.

Eye/ lid irritation: The discharge is likely due to eye or eyelid irritation. Try warm compresses, frequent artificial tears, and ointment at night. If persistent symptoms, go see an eye doctor.
