Canavan disease: Is a relatively rare, but always fatal, inherited, degenerative brain disorder that primarily affects children of eastern and central european jewish (ashkenazi) descent. It presents at three to nine months of age. Children with canavan disease cannot crawl, walk, sit or talk.
