A member asked:

How long does salmonella live in the refrigerator? it's been a year since we defrosted a turkey. i hoone.. is it dead? salmonella scares me.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It's not worth it...: The turkey is dead. The Salmonella and other bacteria... who knows? There's a reason for cleaning out refrigerators every month, and throwing out old stuff. Fresh poultry can be at 1-40 degrees only a few days. In the deep freeze, below 0 degrees, maybe 6-12 months. A raw turkey, sitting in the fridge for a whole year... put it in the trash on trash day (with any other old stuff from the fridge).
