No difference in Rx: A very recent research study found that people who had been infected with the intestinal parasite Giardia had an elevated risk of irritable bowel syndrome. Maybe other intestinal infections like salmonellosis can do the same. However, it probably makes no differenence i how IBS should be treated. This is something to discuss with your doctor.
