Unlikely: these symptoms are those of a viral URI, not mono.

Viral syndrome: You will need to have some nasal and throat samples analyzed to see what kind of viral could do this. Mono usually is accompanied by extreme lymph node enlargement in the neck, difficulty swallowing, and has a specific test to rule out the illness called the Mono spot. What does your doctor think about his ? Suggest you go to a good pediatrician and have a thorough history and physical exam
