Treat the cause: Laura, the pain caused by usually stones or sludge in the gallbladder is called "biliary colic" and can be masked by many different pain medicines for a while, but ultimately should be treated by the removal of your gallbladder as you are planning. If the ibuprofen is no longer working, make sure your surgeon knows so that he/she can assess if there needs to be additional testing or treatment.
