New bump: Bumps in the scalp may be oil filled cysts (sebaceous). Bumps can also be due to swollen lymph glands and deserve to be checked by a doctor. Worrisome symptoms include: bumps that don't do away, tenderness or pain, drainage or general symptoms such as fatigue, night sweats or weight loss.
