Possibly tested: Asbestos was banned in 1977. Usually when a house built before that year is purchased the owner is made aware of any asbestos that is present. Not all popcorn ceilings contain asbestos. You can have it tested if you are concerned. You can also have it removed or painted over. Painting over it will decrease some of the dust from it.
