Chickenpox is: spread through respiratory droplets;you don't need direct contact or coughing or sneezing to spread it.If you were near him while he was speaking, you may have been exposed. If you were across the room it's unlikely. The incubation period is 7-21 days,so you won't know if you're infected or not until that time period is up.If you are pregnant or have an underlying disease, call your doctor to discuss.

I assume so: Chickenpox is one of the most contagious infections around. Being in the same room with a case, even briefly, is considered an exposure. Most adults in the US are immune even when they do not remember having the disease or the shots. It can be mild. Be vigilant at 10-21 days which is when I expect it to appear if you get it. Contact your doc if you do.It can be severe in adults.
