They don't want it: Cold virus is very contagious and many people would prefer not to catch it - especially at this busy, festive time. When you compare the ethics or virtue of what you did to so much in our society, I don't think you'll be in the running for top culprit. But it's considerate to minimize exposure by limiting non-crucial contacts. Hope you feel better soon!

Probably bad: Colds are very common and usually unpleasant. We quickly learn the symptoms in others and are sensitive to this. Since no one wants a cold, it is probably sensible to excuse someone who has an obvious cold from gathers where the condition might spread. I am sure you would feel uncomfortable around someone with an active cold.
