Could be serious.: Pulmonary edema could be caused by fluid overload, congestive heart failure, cardiomyopathy, structural heart defects, or exposure to external toxic chemicals. Treatment depends on the severity of the pulmonary edema.

I just took some cough medicine and apparently I didn't swallow well and it caused a coughing fit and felt like my lungs were closing up. Every time I breath in through my nose it causes irritation in my throat and I cough again. Possibly aspirated?
