I just took some cough medicine and apparently i didn't swallow well and it caused a coughing fit and felt like my lungs were closing up. every time i breath in through my nose it causes irritation in my throat and i cough again. possibly aspirated?

It is possible you aspirated a small amount of the cough medicine. The reflex coughing that resulted will clear most of it our of your lungs and then you should be ok since it was likely only a small amount you took. If you develop other symptoms like shortness of breath, fever, not feeling well, etc, then call your doctor or go to the nearest emergency room. Good luck!
